Knowing the Difference Between a Swarm of Bees or a Bee Hive

It's important to know the difference between a hive and a swarm. Swarms are typical in the spring and fall months. typically if you have bees they will congregate on tree limbs or bushes while the nurse bees feed the queen, the queen assigns the Scout bees to seek out a new hollow place to build a new hive.

Honey bees are pretty particular in where they will build. If you happen to walk upon a ball of bees that looks like a softball, football or even a Basketball! This is a swarm of bees. Now you can usually give them 3 to 7 days and see if they move on. Since there is no hive yet, they have nothing to protect and there will be no reason to sting.

If you see honey bees flying in and out of a tree, hole in the wall, under your shed rapidly, you have a beehive. Its very important to know the difference. Many will not know they have a hive until they are attacked when mowing the lawn or using a combustible engine.

If you do see a bee hive or swarm its hard to tell if the bees have been present for an extended time. Give B Logic a call and we can safely relocate your honey bees or remove your wasp/hornet nests.

My bees were relocated, I have some still here?

Bees will fly up to 2 miles from the hive to collect nectar and pollen. They will always gather honey before nectar and pollen if the pollen and nectar flow are not strong. You could see a few bees cleaning the honey from the ground or any surface honey dripped from. Typically you will see no bees the next day.

If you're still having trouble with bees after 5-7 days after we have relocated them, give us a call and we will see what else we can do.
